About Us

Helping marginalized families and communities in India to achieve subsumable development, Save A Family Plan is an international non-governmental voluntary organization based in Canada and India. Since, millions are still under poverty, deprived of a decent roof and other basic human necessities in India, Save A Family Plan acts as a catalyst by implementing a broad range of programs resulting in a self-sustaining and resilient families and communities.

Our efforts are primarily focused on poorest of the poor families through our Family Development Program, by assisting and guiding them to start sustainable income generation activities, constructing safe housing and sanitation facilities, accessing safe drinking water, education of children and other basic human requirements.

Through our Community Development Program, we empower the marginalized communities in India to address their problems and issues in a participatory, scientific and sustainable manner by themselves. Along with our assistance and the local resources mobilized by the community itself, they resolve the key issues faced within the community like drinking water, sanitation, transportation etc. Save A Family Plan is headquartered at Kanjoor, Ernakulam, India and London, Ontario, Canada.

Our Orgins

Save A Family Plan began with inspiration received from Pope Paul VI at the International Eucharistic Congress in Mumbai, India in 1965. Monsignor Augustine Kandathilal (also known as Father Gus), a young priest from the Archdiocese of Ernakulum - Angamaly, heard the appeal by the Pope to the world to join him in a non-violent battle against poverty and hunger in lands like India. That same year Save A Family Plan was born, by assisting five poor families in the Ernakulum - Angamaly region of Kerala. It has since grown to a great endeavour, reaching out to more than 75000 families and 42000 community groups across India.
