Family Development Program is the pioneer program of Save A Family Plan, which aims at the overall development of poor families in India by promoting economic and social development initiatives.
Today, India ranks 130 out of 189 countries, in the human development index released by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The 2018 Multidimensional Poverty Index says that 271 million fewer people in India are poor.
In this adverse situation, Save A Family Plan is committed make a long term and visible change in the society. Through our Family Development Program, we assist the poor families to carryout profitable income generation programs by providing them monetary aid and technical training. Our capacity building programs helps the families to equip themselves with various social and economic skills, which in turn assist them towards a self-sustainable living in their community.
The poor families are selected for assistance based on fixed and transparent criteria, and will be given six consecutive years of financial support. The families, with the guidance of our field staffs, use the support money to meet their basic needs and build a sustainable Income Generation Program. Our program staff acts as a mediator and assists the needy families to access local resources from governments which can push their development endeavours further.

The Family Development Program has been supporting poor families across 5 different states in India. Save A Family Plan has supported more than 75000 families through Family Development Program, since its invention in 1965. In doing so, we are in collaboration with 35 non-government organizations in India through which 134 field staffs are constantly working to guide the families supported.
